The Triple J Subdivision is located on Welfare Rd in the northeast corner of town. This project was conceived in August of 1999 and was before the planning board for purposes of Seqra in January 2000 with the only public meeting being held. Originally the project was to be 8 houses, then six and finally seven houses, one of which is in Patterson. According to Planning Board chairman in April 2004 it was learned that the NYC DEP had apparently lost the paperwork and test results concerning septic and well placement. At that point Mr. Rohrman granted conditional final approval for the project even though the Town of Patterson had not reviewed the project as yet. The bulk of the wetlands on this project is located in Patterson and a plan exists for the preservation of those wetlands. In December of 2004 the NYC DEP contacted two of the principals, Jay Hogan and John Petrillo; the DEP had decided to change the layout and the number of detention basins on the project. This was brought out at a Patterson Planning Board Meeting. This caused a design change, yet the town granted final approval this Spring. On the final plat map the barn is shown as an existing structure, the plan does not show that the barn was to be removed. In a conversation with Jay Hogan after the December Patterson Board Planning meeting he told me the barn would remain. On the map legend there is a listing for existing structures to be removed, the barn is not shown on those maps as one of the structures to be removed. I have included the portion of the plat map that shows the existing barn and the map legend as well. It should also be noted that the barn shows the same designation as an existing home located to the south and west of the project.
In a conversation with the Southeast Planning Board today I was told that Triple J had applied for and been granted a demolition permit for the barn. I will foil for that permit as well as all paperwork concerning the project since the final approval was granted.
Why has this historic structure been destroyed? Why has the Planning Board review of this project been conducted with the implication that the barn would remain according to the plat map. Also of note is an inconsistency on the plat map that shows my property as listed as" now or formerly Smith." I can tell you that in my extensive research of the farm, of which I own the farmhouse, no one named Smith has ever owned this property. This farm was in fact a working dairy farm through the late '60s. |
